I own a two family home in Schenectady, which I purchased many years ago as a single parent. It is now rental property with two tenants. Recently there was a break in the water line. The water main is across the street and I was told by the City that it was my responsibility to replace the line going to my property, which is where the break was. They also said that the plumber I used had to be board certified in Schenectady, of which Gourlay Plumbing is. I was given a quote of $3,000, which knocked me off my feet. As it turned out there were two breaks, the second was right near the house. A huge tree had been taken down years before, but all the huge roots were still in the ground which made it much more difficult. Although it took much longer than expected because of all additional issues, the job was completed for the original agreed upon fee.
