With two small children, mid way through my pool project, Adam came to my home and asked me for the next installment check of $5000.00. The very next morning he sent an email, "with a heavy heart I must declare bankruptcy, please direct all future communication through my attorney." I had to pay the sub contractors what he did not pay them and I was out $35,000 with a half-finished pool, essentially a hole in my back yard! There is nothing for a homeowner to do when a small business does this to you. It is your responsibility to clean up his fraudulent mess....the money you paid already is gone and you have to pay the subcontractors thousands of dollars to get the liens off of your home. You then have to pay someone new to finish the job. For a young family at the time, this was devistating and we never heard from him again. We were told he can just resurface and start new under a new company and name non-issue. So there is my story and the scum bag who took that check the night before he declared bankruptcy. Sadly he and all small businesses are more protected than homeowners in the state of Florida. If you do not have the money to "lawyer up" you are done and since he declared bankruptcy, no lawyer would take the case since there is nothing to sue him for after bankruptcy. He got us good....
